Christopher Shaffer serves as Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. In this role Mr. Shaffer provides leadership oversight and support for all planning, assessment, and evaluation activities on campus. He has been a leader in promoting student success at SSU and as an advisor to other professionals US higher education. His work with the software package, Tableau, in particular, has elevated his unique talents to help others understand how data can be used to guide university policy. In addition to serving at SSU, Mr. Shaffer also was appointed by Governor Kasich to ServeOhio, Ohio’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism.
Prior to joining Shawnee State University, Mr. Shaffer was Assistant Director and Director Governor’s Office of Appalachia, where is was a liaison with the Appalachian Regional Commission in Washington, D.C. to promote the region’s assets and support local, regional, state, and federal initiatives. In this role, he represented the governor at federal meetings with the ARC.
Mr. Shaffer was Operations Manager and Ohio Benefit Bank Outreach for the Ohio Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and also a Brigade Assistant Operations Officer serving in Afghanistan.
Mr. Shaffer earned his MBA from Ohio Dominican University and his bachelor’s of science in human geography and environmental engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
